Seager

This is Seager. He’s a 9 1/2 year old German Shepherd. He’s been a big goof ball since day 1. He loves to play tugs and fetch. His favorite activity however is playing chase with his 2 1/2 year old human “nephew”.

We had noticed that Seager seemed to be slowing down, but he is 9 after all, so we didn’t think too much of it. Then he stopped eating, and then we noticed giant lymph nodes under his chin. When we got the official diagnosis of lymphoma we are all devastated. And his condition seemed to be declining rapidly. After hours of calling around to multiple canine oncology sites, we were blessed to have Summit Veterinary call us back and say we’ll fit you in. And we were able to start some preliminary treatment that day! While we waited for another test to come back and to discuss as a family how we would like to proceed. When we learned that the recommended treatment would cost nearly $20,000, we were shocked to say the least. Having to make medical decisions based on finances seemed so unfair to our sweet boy.

That’s when we were given a pamphlet about Toby’s Hope. I looked into it and was so amazed at all the pets that had been helped by this organization and seeing Toby’s journey was so heartbreaking while also heartwarming. I decided to apply, because what would the harm be. I figured it was a total long shot. Then I got a phone call about week later from Suman herself letting me know that we had been granted funds to help offset the costs of treatment. I was speechless and immediately broke down in tears. What a huge weight to have been lifted. This organization is incredible. And Suman has the biggest heart! We are so incredibly grateful.

Seager is 2 rounds into treatment now and is doing well overall. Not many side effects from the chemo thankfully and he has started to gain back some weight. It’s just nice to see him be playful again.

We are so grateful to Toby’s Hope and Suman for this incredible gift to help us have a little bit more time with our boy.
